Team SoloMid (TSM FTX), one of the biggest esports organizations in the world known most for its League of Legends team, officiated its path in the competitive Dota 2 scene.
Prior to this announcement, Dota 2's North American competitive scene has reportedly been struggling. This difficulty is primarily due to the lack of organizational support for most of the teams in the region. With TSM FTX joining the picture, the region will see two major organizations competing for the winning title: Evil Geniuses and TSM FTX.
The group revealed it officiated an over $200 million (Rp 28.75 billion) landmark deal with the North American team Undying on Wednesday, 26 January 2022. This would be the first time TSM FTX will become involved in professional Dota 2 competitions.
TSM FTX is one of the most globally-recognized esports brands that compete in North America's LoL Championship Series. The brand is also known for its participation in several other major games, such as VALORANT, PUBG Mobile, Fortnite: Battle Royale, and Apex Legends.
It also extends its scope beyond esports as it signs Chess Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura under their banner. Its FTX title comes from its major sponsor, FTX, a cryptocurrency-related firm based in Hong Kong. The deal was made in June last year for $210 million (Rp 30 billion), which ensures that TSM FTX will receive $21 million (Rp 3 billion) in annual funds to improve and expand its abilities and fields.
The Dota 2 roster
TSM FTX has also announced its Dota 2 roster comprised of the current Undying formation, which consists of:
- Canadian captain and position 4 support David "MoonMeander" Tan
- South Korean veteran position 5 support Kim "DuBu" Doo-Young
- Peruvian carry Enzo "Timado" Gianoli
- Canadian midlaner Jonathan "Bryle" De Guia
- Czech offlaner Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek
The Undying team has been known as one of the best teams in North America. Formed in January 2021, the team finished third in the Winter and Spring Tours of Division I of the North American regional league in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season of the same year.
Team Undying topped the achievement by entering The International 10 (TI10) through the regional qualifiers and finishing in 13th-16th. The North American Team continuously improved its performance and finally took second place in the Winter Tour regional league as a start for the 2021-2022 DPC season.
The newly restructured team will be making its re-debut under TSM FTX in North America's online Regional Finals in mid-February, a replacement event for the canceled Winter Major.
