PRESIDENT JOKO WIDODO COMMENDS BATIK ARTISANS AT NATIONAL BATIK EXHIBITION
Fostering National Pride: President Joko Widodo Celebrates Batik's Cultural Legacy and Economic Contribution.
President Joko Widodo expressed his appreciation for batik artisans across the country who continue to innovate, create, and produce exceptional batik works that represent the rich heritage of Indonesia. The President conveyed this sentiment while inaugurating the Nusantara Batik Exhibition on Wednesday at Senayan Park Mall, Jakarta.
"I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to batik craftsmen, batik designers, batik entrepreneurs, batik enthusiasts, and all those who have been tirelessly creating, producing, and using batik as a symbol of our nation's cultural pride," remarked the President.
President Widodo emphasized that batik is not only beautiful but also carries profound meanings and philosophies within its intricate designs. "Batik is our identity, batik is our honor," he expressed passionately.
The President further elaborated that batik has contributed significantly to employment generation and livelihoods for millions of Indonesians. As per reports from Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, the value and turnover of the batik industry in Indonesia have shown continuous growth, and the President expressed optimism for further progress post-pandemic.
"I believe that post-pandemic, its growth will be even more substantial," President Widodo remarked optimistically.
The President also hoped that Indonesia's economic resurgence could be harnessed effectively to promote Nusantara batik. He envisioned a thriving national economy in the coming years.
"I encourage craftsmen, designers, entrepreneurs, batik enthusiasts, and the entire Indonesian populace to make the best use of this economic revival to continue developing our unique batik by exploring new designs, motifs, and colors each year, thus enhancing its diversity and appeal," urged President Widodo.
The inauguration was attended by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Mrs. Wury Ma’ruf Amin, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Secretary of the Cabinet Pramono Anung, Mrs. Siti Faridah Pratikno, Chairwoman of the Nusantara Batik Exhibition Diana Santosa, and Chairman of the Indonesian Batik Foundation Gita Pratama. The event was a testament to the unity and appreciation for the enduring cultural significance of batik in Indonesia.
