A leather goods buyer walks a trade fair hall in Milan, running a thumb across a stitched loafer sole before checking the price tag. Multiply that by tens of thousands of people, three times over the next 15 months, and you get a sense of why MICAM Milano just rebranded its entire identity around one idea: shoes come first, before everything else in fashion.

On June 24, 2026, MICAM Milano  the trade fair widely considered the footwear industry's main global meeting point  launched a new international campaign called "Shoes First." The idea behind it: footwear has stopped being a garment accessory and has become a stand-alone marker of identity, culture, and design, the same way a handbag or a jacket might. The campaign rolls out across digital, social, editorial, and trade fair channels ahead of MICAM's next edition, running September 13–15, 2026, in Milan, with two more editions already locked in for February 21–23 and September 12–14, 2027.

What Is MICAM Milano's Shoes First Campaign?

Shoes First is MICAM Milano's new communication platform, not a product line or a single ad. It's built to reposition the fair  and footwear itself  as a cultural force rather than a manufacturing category buried at the back of a fashion week schedule. The campaign argues that a shoe is no longer where a designer's process ends; it's now the reference point where an entire outfit, and often an entire personal brand, begins.

"Shoes represent much more than an aesthetic choice," said Giovanna Ceolini, President of MICAM, in the campaign announcement.

Who Is Behind the Shoes First Campaign?
Giovanna Ceolini, President of MICAM, and Giorgio Possagno, General Director of Assocalzaturifici and CEO of MICAM, are the two names fronting the launch. Possagno framed footwear as one of the most influential product categories currently shaping how consumers signal taste and identity  a claim that lines up with how sneaker drops now move faster on Instagram than most streetwear.

The creative work itself was handled by George  Kill Your Dragons, with 3D and post-production led by Luca Petrillo and project management by Daniela Boniardi. That's a fairly heavy production credit list for a trade fair campaign, which tells you MICAM is treating this less like an industry newsletter and more like a full brand relaunch.

Why Should Indonesian Shoe Lovers and Brands Care?
Indonesia's footwear manufacturing sector  from Jakarta and Cirebon to Bandung's leather workshops  regularly sends buyers and manufacturers to MICAM to scout trends and close deals. A campaign that reframes shoes as cultural objects rather than seasonal SKUs is a signal worth watching if you're building a local footwear brand or sourcing for one, since it hints at how European buyers will be pitching quality and story over the next year.

What Happens Next?
Expect the "Shoes First" messaging to show up across MICAM's social channels and editorial partners in the run-up to the September 2026 Milan edition, with the two 2027 dates already confirmed on the calendar.
