A Bali art fair reusing last year's booth panels instead of building new ones sounds like a small detail. It's actually the point.

Art & Bali 2026 just announced its full exhibitor line-up  22 galleries, museums, artist-led spaces and studios  for its second edition, running 11–13 September at Nuanu Creative City in Bali. It's a boutique fair by design, and the organizers want you to notice the difference between "boutique" and "small."

What is ART & Bali 2026

Art & Bali is an annual international art fair held at Nuanu Creative City, built around the theme "Bridging Dichotomies"  art meeting commerce, tradition meeting experimentation, local practice meeting international exchange. This year's exhibitor roster mixes heavyweight names like the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) with newer players like Kotak Art Collective and Studio Dinding Luar, a printmaking studio from Malang.

The regional spread matters here. Alongside Bali and Jakarta galleries, you'll find G13 Gallery from Kuala Lumpur and Connected Art Platform, which works across Indonesia and Switzerland. It's less "Bali fair with international guests" and more a working map of who's shaping Southeast Asian and diaspora art right now.

What's the flagship exhibition about?
Running alongside the fair, What the Body Remembers opens 11 September at Labyrinth Art Gallery and stays up until 29 November. Led by curator Bandana Tewari with Brina Paska as assistant curator, it brings together 26 artists and studios from Indonesia and India  spanning couture, embroidery, weaving, botanical dyeing and material research.

The show is built around two curatorial threads: "Hand as Archive" and "Routes of Exchange." Think Balinese and Indonesian textile traditions in direct conversation with Indian couture houses and slow-fashion studios  the kind of pairing that makes you stop and read the wall text twice.

"We want it to grow through the quality of the work presented, the strength of the conversations around it and the relationships that come from it, rather than through scale alone," says Kelsang Dolma, Director of Art & Bali by Nuanu Creative City.

How is Art & Bali different from a typical art fair?
Here's the detail that stands out: the HMR panels used for 2025's booths are being reused for 2026's construction. It's a small line in the press release, but it signals something bigger  an Indonesian art fair actually building sustainability into its physical infrastructure, not just its marketing copy.

The fair also isn't fencing itself off to collectors only. Designers, architects, hospitality leaders and residents are explicitly part of the intended audience, which changes who actually walks the floor.

Why does this matter for Bali's creative scene?
Bali's art infrastructure has grown fast, but sustained, curated platforms are rarer than pop-up shows. Art & Bali positions itself as connective tissue between the island's galleries, Indonesia's wider art market and international collectors  the kind of slow institution-building that outlasts a single hype cycle.
