WIC JAKARTA’S 55TH ANNUAL CHARITY BAZAAR CELEBRATES CULTURE, CHARITY, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Cultural Exchange Meets Compassion: A Vibrant Bazaar with a Heart for Charity
The Women’s International Club (WIC) Jakarta has once again successfully brought together cultures, crafts, and communities through its 55th Annual Charity Bazaar, held on November 13th and 14th at the Jakarta Convention Center, Hall B. Thousands gathered at the bustling event to experience a diverse showcase of global traditions, support meaningful causes, and enjoy a vibrant cultural exchange.
This year’s bazaar was ceremonially opened by Indonesia’s Second Lady, Ibu Selvi Gibran Rakabuming, who was joined by Ibu Maidawati Retnoningsih Samsudin, spouse of Lampung’s Acting Governor. With Lampung as the main sponsor, the Governor of Lampung, Bapak Samsudin, and his spouse also attended, supporting Lampung’s efforts to share its culture and promote its tourism. Visitors to the Lampung stall were treated to traditional woven fabrics, local delicacies, and hand-crafted souvenirs, capturing the beauty and heritage of the region. The event was enlivened by the Selinggang Alam, a traditional Lampung dance, which showcased the cultural pride of Lampung with its graceful choreography.
A notable highlight of the bazaar was the participation of approximately 42 stalls from foreign embassies, from Argentina to Vietnam, which offered visitors a taste of the diverse customs, arts, and crafts from around the world. These embassy stalls, along with 225 business stalls, including food, beverage, and charity stalls, created a truly international atmosphere.
The bazaar is an essential fundraiser for WIC, supporting its ongoing social welfare and educational programs. Proceeds from the event aid various community-focused initiatives, including monthly support for senior homes and orphanages as well as scholarships for state university students. This year, the White Elephant Stall aimed to raise over 110 million rupiah to support nine institutions, including three senior homes and six orphanages, continuing a long tradition of helping Jakarta’s underserved communities.
Reflecting on the event’s success, a WIC representative expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from embassies and visitors. "We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and generosity shown by everyone who attended. This support enables us to expand our social missions and create a positive impact in the lives of many."
The Annual Charity Bazaar exemplifies WIC’s mission of fostering friendships, cultural exchange, and social responsibility. As the event concluded, WIC reaffirmed its commitment to hosting this annual gathering, which not only celebrates cultural diversity but also extends a helping hand to those in need.
