At a glance

  • Finish: 6th, Moto3 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia
  • Season points: 115 (up from 105 before the race)
  • Old Honda Team Asia rookie record: 109 points, set by Ai Ogura in 2019
  • Gap to winner: 12.017 seconds

Seventh on the grid. Second place at one point. Sixth at the flag. On paper, that looks like a decent Sunday. In the record books, it is something bigger.

The rider is Veda Ega Pratama, 17, and he just did something no Honda Team Asia rookie has done in Moto3.

What Happened at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia?

Veda started the race from seventh. He didn’t sit back. Over the laps, he moved up as high as second place, in front of a home crowd.

He couldn’t hold that position to the end. He crossed the line sixth, 12.017 seconds behind winner Maximo Quiles.

Quiles had bigger news of his own. He clinched the 2026 Moto3 world title in this race, finishing ahead of David Almansa and Brian Uriarte. So Veda’s best day of the season happened on the day a champion was crowned.

The images from the weekend tell the rest. Veda’s white-and-red Honda Team Asia bike carried a pink number 9, and the Indonesian flag trailed behind him on his victory lap.

Why Does a Sixth-Place Finish Count as a Record?

Moto3 is a points game, and points are what matter over a season. Those 10 points lifted Veda to 115 for the year.

That total is the highest ever for a Honda Team Asia rookie in a single Moto3 season. The previous best was 109 points, set by Ai Ogura in 2019. Ogura’s number stood for seven years.

Here is the part worth sharing. Veda didn’t need a podium to break it. Consistent top-ten finishes did the work. In a sport that celebrates winners, a steady rider quietly rewrote the team’s history.

The result also moved him up one place in the standings, to seventh.

What Does This Mean for the Rest of the 2026 Season?

Five rounds remain: Australia, Malaysia, Qatar, Portugal, and Spain. Every one of them is a chance to add to the 115.

For a debut season, that is a strong position. Veda is already seventh overall with the record in hand, and he has five more races to push it higher.

For Indonesian motorsport fans, the story goes beyond points. A rider from a regency in Yogyakarta is competing near the front of a world championship, and he did it at home, at Mandalika.
