On July 29, MICAM Milano  the trade show behind nearly 800 footwear brands  sat down in Jakarta and made its pitch directly to Indonesian buyers. Here's what the fine print actually says.
A conference room in Jakarta, a slide deck titled "Footwear in Dialogue," and a man named Matteo Scarparo explaining why a shoe fair in Milan should matter to a buyer in Southeast Asia. That was July 29, 2026  the day MICAM Milano brought its recruitment pitch straight to Indonesia instead of waiting for buyers to find it.

MICAM Milano is the world's largest footwear trade fair, held twice a year  every February and September  at Fiera Milano Rho outside Milan, Italy. It's organized by Assocalzaturifici, the Italian Footwear Manufacturers' Association, and it exists to connect footwear factories and brands with the retailers, distributors, and e-commerce buyers who stock their shelves. The current edition counts roughly 794

exhibiting brands  402 Italian, 392 from abroad  pulling in more than 20,000 buyers, 57% of them flying in from outside Italy. Entry is trade-only, by registration, not open to the public.

Why Bring MICAM Milano to Jakarta?

The numbers explain the trip. Asian buyers now make up 26.5% of MICAM's international visitor base, and Southeast Asia is where that growth is concentrated. Rather than wait for Indonesian retailers to book flights to Milan, MICAM sent its Head of Global Trade to make the case in person  a shift from "come to us" to "we'll come to you" that trade fairs rarely bother with.

The pitch itself covered more than shoes. Scarparo walked buyers through more than 1,000 collections spanning women's, men's, children's, and unisex footwear, plus a private-label track where Italian manufacturers build exclusive capsule lines for retail chains that want a proprietary product without opening their own factory.

The room wasn't full of strangers to the idea, either. Buyers from SOGO, Galeries Lafayette, and Prabu Indonesia were among those MICAM sent invitations to, a sign the fair is courting department stores and multi-brand retailers already shaping what Indonesians see on shelves  not just testing the waters with unknown names. And the relationship isn't one-directional: Mario Minardi is set to exhibit at MICAM as one of the fair's Indonesian brands, putting a local name on the same show floor as the 402 Italian labels.

What's New at MICAM This Season?
Two things stood out. First, "Shoes First"  MICAM's new brand campaign built on the line "Change the shoes, change the story," treating footwear as the outfit's lead character rather than its last accessory. Second, a Trend Buyer's Guide built with data analysis and AI, scanning social media, runway shows, and e-commerce signals to flag which silhouettes, colors, and materials will actually sell  a hedge against buyers guessing wrong on a season's worth of stock.

MICAM also runs an Influencer Marketing Program: participating retailers can host content creators for in-store shoots, and the resulting content  try-ons, trend edits, product highlights  gets pushed through MICAM's own channels, including an Instagram following of roughly 47,000.

How Much Does It Cost to Attend MICAM Milano?
MICAM doesn't sell a flat entry ticket  registration through micam.it is free for qualified trade buyers. For buyers who apply and get selected, the Hosted Buyer Program, run with Italy's ITA (Italian Trade Agency), covers travel and accommodation assistance, priority access on-site, and invitations to closed events during the fair. MICAM also runs a free shuttle between Milan's airports, Fiera Milano Rho, and key points around the city, so once you land, getting there costs nothing extra.

For an Indonesian retailer weighing the trip, that's the actual calculation: not a ticket price, but whether your buying volume and market profile clear the bar for hosted support  or whether you're paying your own way to sit across from 402 Italian brands at once.
