Diplomatic Reception Highlights Strong Bilateral Ties and Future Collaboration

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore marked the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence with a grand diplomatic reception held at the Shangri-La Hotel. The event, held on Thursday, was graced by the presence of the guest of honour, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and Environment, Grace Fu, alongside members of the diplomatic community, high-ranking officials, and prominent business leaders. The gathering underscored the enduring and harmonious relationship between Indonesia and Singapore.

Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, opened the event with remarks that highlighted the significance of the day. He expressed that this national celebration is not only a moment of pride for Indonesia but also a testament to the robust bilateral ties with Singapore. Despite changes in leadership in both nations, Ambassador Pratomo emphasized that the strong foundation of foreign policies and mutually beneficial cooperation remains unshaken.

Ambassador Pratomo also lauded the flourishing economic relationship between the two countries, pointing to record-breaking investment figures and continued growth in bilateral trade. He noted that Singapore remains one of the largest investors in Indonesia, with investments reaching USD 8.9 billion in the first half of 2024 alone.

In addition to economic achievements, Ambassador Pratomo underscored the rapidly growing cultural, educational, and research exchanges between Indonesia and Singapore. He highlighted these exchanges as crucial steps forward in advancing research on sustainability and innovation, areas of shared interest and collaboration between the two nations.

In his closing remarks, Ambassador Pratomo extended his gratitude to all of Indonesia’s partners, stating, “Indonesia is on a golden path to becoming a major economic player in Asia, and with the support of our friends and partners, we are optimistic about realizing the nation’s great visions.”

Minister Grace Fu, in her address, acknowledged the strength of the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore. She emphasized that this collaboration not only serves to complement each country’s national interests but also contributes to regional and global efforts. Minister Fu also expressed optimism about future cooperation on new and emerging issues, building on the existing strong foundation.

The reception was further enlivened by the display of Indonesia's rich cultural diversity, showcased through the traditional costumes worn by officials and staff of the Indonesian Embassy. Minister Fu expressed her admiration for this vibrant cultural representation, which added a festive and inclusive atmosphere to the event.

The diplomatic reception concluded with a renewed commitment to further strengthen the bonds between Indonesia and Singapore, promising continued collaboration in various fields for the benefit of both nations.
