GIIAS 2021: INTRODUCING CAR WITH WORLD PREMIERE STATUS

After several cancellations due to the pandemic, the GIIAS 2021 international automotive exhibition has officially started.

The World Class Auto Show Series, GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2021, has been officially opened by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, at Nusantara Hall, Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City, Tangerang, Thursday (11/11/ 2021). The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, was also present to support the annual exhibition and become a showcase for the Indonesian automotive industry.

Yohannes Nangoi, General Chair of GAIKINDO, expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian government, with full support, and various GIIAS policies can be carried out again.

“GIIAS will be a symbol of the spirit of the Indonesian automotive industry in overcoming the pandemic. A positive milestone for the growth of the Indonesian automotive industry, GIIAS is the pride of the nation and reflects GAIKINDO's efforts to continue to encourage the progress of the Indonesian automotive industry," said Nangoi.

On that occasion, Nangoi also conveyed various achievements recorded by the Indonesian automotive industry, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first is that Indonesia is self-sufficient in motorized vehicles. Second, the vehicles that receive the PPnBM DTP incentive policy are vehicles produced in Indonesia with a Local Purchase of more than 60 percent.

And the January–October 2021 period recorded an increase in domestic sales of up to 68 percent compared to the same period last year. Finally, the recovery of the Indonesian automotive industry will revive various industries and MSMEs in the automotive sector.

"As an industrial locomotive, the recovery of the automotive industry will also generate supporting industrial activities that absorb a lot of workers," explained Nangoi.

A positive tone for the Indonesian automotive industry was also expressed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, at the opening ceremony of GIIAS 2021, on November 11, 2021, in his remarks, saying that the timing of the GIIAS after its absence last year was a good thing, because the pandemic conditions were getting better. And even in the third quarter, the handling of covid in Indonesia was the best in ASEAN.

Airlangga also congratulated GIIAS and the Minister of Industry for the development of the automotive sector in Indonesia, "Congratulations on the implementation of GIIAS which continues to encourage the movement of the automotive industry in Indonesia, of course, we hope that this exhibition can encourage the automotive industry which has a high multiplayer effect," said Airlangga.

 

Wheels to move

Carrying the theme “Wheels to Move”, which is interpreted as a statement that the Indonesian automotive industry will always move forward with GAIKINDO, and Nangoi revealed that through the implementation of GIIAS, various technologies and the latest products from the automotive industry, including electric-based vehicles are currently present and introduced. Reflecting the commitment of the Indonesian automotive industry to the importance of contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Audi, BMW, Daihatsu, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, KIA, Lexus, Mazda, MG, Mini, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Suzuki, Toyota, VW, Wuling, as well as Isuzu, Hino, Mitsubishi Fuso, and Scania of commercial vehicles, will feature various products and their latest innovative technologies throughout the implementation of GIIAS 2021. Dozens of electric-based vehicle variants will be exhibited and introduced, some of which can be tried directly in the GIIAS 2021 test drive program area.

New Car Introduction

The exhibition, postponed due to the pandemic, became a place for various brands to show their latest products for the first time and even have world premiere status. The Honda SUV RS concept car is expected to become a compact SUV product in 2022 against rivals such as Rocky, Raize, Sonet, Kiger, and Magnite.

Hyundai introduces the Creta SUV. This product will be made in Indonesia using Hyundai's new factory in the Cikarang area. Comes with a modern design and advanced features, Creta is expected to attract Indonesian consumers.

KIA presents the Grand Carnival, a luxury MPV that can accommodate 11 passengers. This is KIA's most modern MPV model with a futuristic design and advanced features.

MG presents the MG 5 GT, a sporty sedan designed for MG fans in Indonesia. On the exhibition floor, MG also offers its newest electric vehicle.
