Diplomats, Leaders, and Business Communities Gather to Celebrate and Strengthen Partnerships Across the Indo-Pacific Region
Canada’s 157th national day celebration concluded with resounding success on Wednesday, July 3, at the Fairmont Hotel Ballroom in Jakarta. Hosted by H.E. Jess Dutton, Ambassador of Canada to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, and H.E. Vicky Singmin, Ambassador of Canada to ASEAN, the event brought together influential leaders, diplomats, and civil society representatives to celebrate Canada’s deepening ties with Indonesia and the ASEAN region.
This year’s theme, "Cavalcade of Lights," served as a symbol of Canada’s ongoing efforts to advance its Indo-Pacific Strategy. Key discussions focused on fostering inclusive economic growth, empowering women, tackling climate change, promoting clean energy solutions, and enhancing peace and security across the Indo-Pacific.
Ambassador Dutton expressed his enthusiasm for the gathering: “This celebration underscores the strength of Canada’s relationships with both Indonesia and ASEAN. We are committed to furthering our partnerships and addressing shared global challenges.”
Echoing this sentiment, Ambassador Singmin highlighted Canada’s collaborative efforts in the region: “The themes discussed during this year’s event, from climate action to economic inclusivity, reflect Canada’s dedication to a prosperous and sustainable future for all.”
Attendees included members of parliament, government officials, business leaders from both Indonesia and Canada, as well as representatives from ASEAN and diplomatic communities. The gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties while celebrating Canada’s national day in a festive and collaborative spirit.
Following the official ceremony, the Ambassadors engaged with media representatives, fielding questions on Canada’s strategic initiatives and ongoing partnerships within the Indo-Pacific region.
The Canada Day celebration served not only as a reflection of the country’s rich cultural heritage but also as a platform to advance discussions on pressing regional and global issues. As Canada continues to expand its influence and partnerships within the Indo-Pacific, events like this play a crucial role in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
