ART JAKARTA GARDENS: WHERE NATURE AND CREATIVITY UNITE
A Fusion of Art and Greenery Transforms Hutan Kota by Plataran
Art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Art Jakarta Gardens, a unique celebration of contemporary art set amidst the lush greenery of Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta. Scheduled from April 23rd to April 28th, 2024, this event promises to be a mesmerizing experience, seamlessly blending art and nature.
The brainchild of Art Jakarta, the inaugural edition of Art Jakarta Gardens in 2022 was a pioneering initiative amid the challenges of the pandemic. Combining outdoor and indoor settings for the presentation of art, Art Jakarta Gardens breathed new life into the art scene after a hiatus of art events during pandemic restrictions. Its success has prompted its return as a celebrated annual event.
Enin Supriyanto, the Fair’s Artistic Director, expressed his delight, stating, “This third edition of Art Jakarta Gardens makes us happy as the organizer. The participating galleries come with enthusiasm and great spirits, bringing the latest works of the artists they represent.”
Featuring 23 notable galleries alongside 30 captivating outdoor sculptures and installations, Art Jakarta Gardens showcases works from outstanding artists across generations, ranging from Indonesian modern masters like G. Sidharta to emerging talents like Dian Hardiansyah.
According to Fair Director Tom Tandio, Art Jakarta Gardens aims to foster a deeper appreciation of art, especially among the younger generation. “We hope Art Jakarta Gardens can contribute to the opportunity for young people to learn and be more appreciative of art. In Art Jakarta Gardens, the young generation can get to know art in less formal surroundings and even start collecting,” Tandio remarked.
This year’s event boasts admirable collaborations between partners and artists, with installations that provoke thought and inspire awe. Lead Partner Bibit presents Erwin Windu Pranata's site-specific inflatable sculpture, "The Bouquet: Fall and Grow," which encourages respect for nature's cycle of life. Treasury, another Lead Partner, showcases Naufal Abshar's gold coin design in the installation "Gold is King," symbolizing stability in tumultuous times.
New Partner Xiaomi presents Davy Linggar's photography in an outdoor exhibit featuring 14 pieces of Linggar's work, highlighting the fusion of art and technology. Meanwhile, iForte, in collaboration with artist Tomy Hersata, presents "We Hear You're Here and There," a spatial sound installation reflecting the fragmented reality of the digital age.
Roca, a Partner renowned for its bathroom products, collaborates with this/PLAY to create the installation "Bathing is fair," inspired by iconic artworks. Through these collaborations, Art Jakarta Gardens not only showcases art but also fosters dialogue and reflection on contemporary issues.
The public program of Art Jakarta Gardens includes performance art by Monica Hapsari and a music performance curated by RURUradio Lounge, presented by the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation. Additionally, Partner Luar enhances visitors' experience with high-quality outdoor furniture.
