Black Adam is ready to reign in DC's upcoming film this year. Helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra, known for his horror works, he spoke with the media expressing his excitement towards the new collaboration with Dwayne Johnson. In a recent interview, he also admitted that fans will return to the DC Extended Universe to watch the mystery of the character's origins and his clash with the Justice Society of America. 

Collet-Serra previously known as the producer of Shallows (2016) and director of Unknown (2011) and Orphan (2009) originated from Catalonia, Spain. He often stated that in this particular movie, "the hierarchy of the DC Universe is about to change".

A film of the spin-off from DC's 'Shazam!' centering on the film's anti-hero, Black Adam, aside from Dwayne Johnson, the film stars Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. 

Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, and Bodhi Sabongui are also on board in undisclosed roles. Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions are producing the movie with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. FlynnPictureCo’s Scott Sheldon serves as an executive producer.

Production on Black Adam finally kicked off in April 2021 and wrapped in August. DC films plan to release the film on July 29, 2022, a week after the premiere of DC Batman.

While Superman is hailed as the strongest superhero in the DC Universe, the arrival of Dwayne Johnson's anti-hero character Black Adam is sure to change a few things around. 

Probably a prominent spoiler, in an interview with media, Johnson said, "let’s make sure we respect tradition and mythology but let's not be handcuffed creatively. We can do anything if we keep the audience first. So to me, there's a battle that's going to go down one day, between Black Adam and Superman."

On Johnson's official Twitter page, he also addressed Superman's greatest weakness not being kryptonite, but magic. On the other hand, Black Adam's greatest gift is magic. While the starring character admitted himself that Superman and Black Adam are "unstoppable forces", only one will win by killing the other. 

Meanwhile, according to comic books, Black Adam is mentioned supposedly as Shazam's arch-enemy. Until recently, official plot details are still vague. Though, fans have been kept skeptical as questions arise whether this film will feature Superman or Shazam. 

From the video teaser, the film is expected to explore the history of the character's backstory as a man corrupted by his superpowers from Egyptian Gods in Kahndaq and imprisoned for 5,000 years before being unleashed in the present day and finding the line between a villain and a hero.
