SHARE THE STORY

A mountain-gear brand and the women weavers of Mollo, NTT, turn traditional cloth into everyday bags.

At a glance

  • 4 to 21 days: time to weave one 60 x 200 cm cloth
  •  4 areas: Mollo Utara, Mollo Tengah, Polen and Tobu
  • 14 Nov 2026: exclusive launch in 5 cities

A strip of cloth about the size of a yoga mat can take a weaver up to three weeks to finish. Now that cloth sits on the front pocket of a backpack.

That is the idea behind EIGER Tabua Tenu, a new collection from the outdoor brand EIGER and the women weavers of Mollo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

EIGER Tabua Tenu is a collection of sling bags, backpacks and vests made from handwoven Mollo cloth. EIGER made it with Yayasan Muwara Daya and dozens of women weavers from Mollo, Timor Tengah Selatan, NTT. It was shown at the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 at CGV Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, on 23 October 2026. It goes on sale from 14 November 2026. The price has not been announced yet.

What is EIGER Tabua Tenu?

Think of it as a trail bag with a story attached. The base bags are plain and practical. The woven panels make each one look like nothing else on the shelf.

The photos from the launch show the idea clearly. A brown backpack has a pocket of blue, rust and cream stripes. A blue utility vest has woven trim across the chest pockets. A small sling bag hangs on a woman standing in her own garden.

How is Mollo cloth made?

Slowly, and by hand. One cloth measures 60 x 200 centimetres and takes between four days and three weeks to finish.

In the launch photos, one weaver sits at a wooden loom inside a hut with bamboo walls. Long threads in blue, rust and cream stretch out in front of her, and her hands move along the row.

EIGER and the weavers also made new patterns for this collection. They kept the traditional Mollo motifs, which carry cultural meaning and customary rules of their own.

Who are the weavers behind it?

The collection involves women weavers from four areas: Mollo Utara, Mollo Tengah, Polen and Tobu. They are the “mama” and “nona” (mothers and young women) of Mollo, working together with Yayasan Muwara Daya.

The launch photos show the weavers in their own villages, in front of thatched roofs, cooking spots and gardens. The work is part of daily life there, not a factory job.

Where and when can you buy EIGER Tabua Tenu?

The collection is exclusive from 14 November 2026. You can buy it on the official EIGER website and in EIGER flagship stores in Bandung, Jakarta, Depok, Surabaya and Bali.

A special exhibition will run in the second week of November 2026. Visitors can look closely at the weaving, learn how it is made and meet some of the weavers in person.

Why does this matter?

Local craft rarely gets a spot on a national retail shelf. This collection puts it in front of EIGER’s customers and pays the people who made it. It also gives them recognition, not just a one-time order.
