In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Indonesia, the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta proudly announces the arrival of Drew Tucker and the New Standard Band to Indonesian shores. From April 28 to May 12, 2024, this Florida-based hip-hop, pop, and jazz quintet will immerse audiences across Indonesia in a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange and collaboration.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of State’s Arts Envoy program, aims to foster dialogue and inspire cooperation between Indonesians and Americans. Through a series of musical performances and educational workshops spotlighting the vibraphone and the tuba, the band seeks to showcase the universal language of jazz as a catalyst for promoting shared values such as free expression, diversity, and inclusion.

"The United States and Indonesia share a rich tapestry of shared values encapsulated in each country's mottos: E Pluribus Unum and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," remarked Embassy Spokesperson Michael Quinlan. "Exchange programs like this serve as conduits for dialogue and mutual understanding, with music serving as a powerful medium for communication."

Kicking off their Indonesian tour, Drew Tucker and the New Standard Band will take center stage at @america in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, in collaboration with Forum Jazz Indonesia. This performance promises to be a vibrant fusion of cultures, showcasing the band's eclectic repertoire and infectious energy.

Beyond Jakarta, the band will traverse the archipelago, making stops in Padang, Padang Panjang, Solo, Salatiga, and Surabaya. Along the way, they will engage with local musicians, universities, and music schools, infusing their educational workshops with entrepreneurial insights and collaborative spirit.

"The program underscores the U.S. Embassy's commitment to fostering people's prosperity and strengthening ties within the creative economy," emphasized Quinlan. "It echoes the overarching theme of the 75th anniversary celebration: Diversity, Democracy, Prosperity."

Indonesians and Americans alike are encouraged to join the festivities by following the program on Instagram using the hashtag #IndonesiaUSA75. For more information on exchange programs and cultural initiatives, visit the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta's official Instagram page or website.
