The European Union is gearing up to host the "Europe on Screen" (EoS) Film Festival once again from June 7th to 16th, 2024. To bolster the excitement for EoS 2024, the European Union is organizing a pre-festival event titled "Road to EoS 2024" in several cities, namely Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Medan, Bandung, and Jakarta. Road to EoS 2024 features screenings of films previously showcased at EoS in previous years. Citizens in these cities can attend these events free of charge.

"Road to EoS 2024 serves as a warm-up session for film enthusiasts in Indonesia as the EoS 2024 Film Festival approaches, simultaneously building their enthusiasm for the films to be screened at EoS 2024," stated Nauval Yazid, Festival Co-Director of EoS 2024.

Thus far, Road to EoS 2024 has been celebrated in several cities. In Surabaya, the event took place at IFI Surabaya and Wisma Jerman on April 19th-20th, 2024, showcasing the films "Any Day Now" (Finland, 2020) and "My Big Night" (Spain, 2015). Nauval Yazid was present at the Road to EoS 2024 Surabaya to inaugurate the event and lead a Q&A session with the audience. This year, the audience's enthusiasm was palpable, with attendees not only from Surabaya but also from satellite cities such as Malang, Sidoarjo, and others.

Meanwhile, Road to EoS 2024 in Yogyakarta took place at IFI Yogyakarta on May 4th, 2024, screening the films "My Grandfather's Demons" (Portugal, 2022), "Mandibles" (France, 2020), and "Mermaids Don’t Cry" (Austria, 2022). The event was lively with a discussion session after the film screenings with Meninaputri Wismurti, Festival Co-Director of EoS 2024, addressing the films and the European film industry. Road to EoS 2024 Yogyakarta continued with a public lecture on European film festivals, in collaboration with the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta. In this lecture, Meninaputri Wismurti introduced and discussed the Europe on Screen Film Festival.

Road to EoS 2024 will continue in Medan on May 10th-11th, 2024, at AF Medan, in Bandung on May 17th, 2024, at IFI Bandung, and in Jakarta from May 31st to June 2nd, 2024, at various locations including IFI Thamrin, Erasmus Huis (May 31st, 2024), the Austrian Embassy, the Italian Cultural Institute (June 1st, 2024), and Goethe House (June 2nd, 2024).

Additionally, Road to EoS 2024 is being held online in the form of Instagram Live sessions featuring figures from the film industry, both from Indonesia and European countries. "RTE24: IGLive" delves into topics related to professions in the film industry, including screenplay adaptation, animation, film publication, subtitling, and film sales.

"We aim for EoS to also serve as a platform for knowledge exchange among local and European film industry enthusiasts. We hope this will support and stimulate the development of both film industries, as well as foster collaboration between the film industries in Indonesia and Europe in the future," said Meninaputri Wismurti.

Information about the Road to EoS 2024 event and EoS 2024 itself can be obtained at www.europeonscreen.org and on EoS's official Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts.
